Settling on the first idea can't be a good thing. Not to say a first try is ever a failure, it's simply a starting point. A good designer will develop their ideas into a coherant solution.


You can see above the different generations and directions I went through to reach the point I'm at now. I feel I can safely say there is an improvment from here to current.
